Two senior leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have resigned from all party posts, citing disillusionment with the party's direction and its failure to meet public expectations.

Mir Arshadul Haque, central joint member secretary of the NCP and chief coordinator of its Chattogram Metropolitan Committee, and Nazmul Hasan Titu, central organiser of Jatiya Sramik Shakti, the party's workers' wing, announced their resignations in separate Facebook posts on Thursday.

"I am withdrawing myself from all responsibilities and posts of the NCP. I resign from the NCP at this moment," Mir Arshadul Haque wrote, adding that he would not contest the Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) seat under the party banner.

Mir Arshadul Haque was a member of the NCP executive council and also served in its media cell, disciplinary committee, environment cell, and as chief coordinator of Chattogram Metropolitan.

Explaining his decision, he said the NCP had emerged from the aspirations of the July mass uprising, promising a new political settlement, but had failed to deliver over the past 10 months.

"There is nothing left of the dreams and possibilities I saw when I joined the NCP," he wrote. "I believe the party and a large section of its leadership are on the wrong path. I cannot continue on this path."

He also expressed frustration with the post-July political situation, saying that despite the sacrifice of more than 1,400 martyrs and thousands of injured, the country has yet to see peace or justice.
