3 held over killing student in Sirajganj

Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of a college student in Sirajganj town on Sunday night.

The arrested were identified as Md Ashiq, 22, a resident of Dhanbandhi Mohalla of the town; Md Shakib Ibrahim, 28, from the same Mohalla; and Mehedi Hasan, 18.

According to police, they conducted raids at various locations throughout the night and arrested them.

Sirajganj Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nazran Rouf confirmed the incident and said that initial interrogation is ongoing.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the trio attacked and stabbed a college student named Abdur Rahman Riyad, 18, a first-year student at Islamia Government College, to death in broad daylight while he was sitting in an auto-rickshaw. He was also a student leader and prominent member of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Later, locals rescued and took the injured to Shaheed M Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at night.

Following the incident, the deceased’s father, Rezaul Karim, filed a murder case naming 11 people and 15–20 unidentified individuals as accused.
