Appeal hearing seeking death penalty for Hasina, Kamal soon

 
The appeal, which was filed earlier by the prosecution seeking the death penalty against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who were sentenced to life imprisonment in a crimes against humanity case over the July uprising, is expected to be placed before the Chamber Judge's Court within a day or two.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim disclosed the information on Sunday while talking with the reporters at the tribunal.

Earlier, on December 15, the prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) filed the appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, seeking enhancement of the sentence awarded to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

On November 27, the prosecution had announced its decision to appeal for an increased sentence for the former prime minister.

On November 17, ICT-1 convicted Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal of crimes against humanity committed during the July Mass Uprising, holding them guilty under the doctrine of superior command responsibility.
