The government has announced a new benefit for private-sector employees under the Universal Pension Scheme, allowing participants to receive 30 per cent of their accumulated pension savings as a lump-sum gratuity upon retirement.

The announcement was made by Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury while presenting the proposed national budget for the 2026"27 financial year in Parliament on Thursday.

According to the finance minister, the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen social protection and retirement security for workers in the private sector. The government is also planning to expand the Universal Pension Programme to bring more employees under its coverage.

Under the new provision, eligible participants will be able to withdraw 30 percent of their total accumulated pension funds as a one-time gratuity payment at retirement, while the remaining amount will continue to support their pension benefits.
