The government has formally issued the gazette of the final ordinance establishing Dhaka Central University (DCU), paving the way for the merger of seven major government colleges in the capital under a single statutory academic framework.

The gazette notification of the Dhaka Central University Ordinance, 2026 was published on the website of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division on Monday. The move follows the approval of the final draft of the ordinance at a meeting of the Advisory Council held on January 22, according to a press release signed by Khalid Mahmud, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education.

The release said the ordinance was endorsed at the Advisory Council meeting chaired by the Chief Adviser, with the stated objective of improving the quality of higher education by integrating seven government colleges in Dhaka under a unified academic and administrative structure and addressing what it described as "long standing administrative gridlock".
