The body of Ali Mahmud, metropolitan editor at the Dainik Dinkal, has been recovered from the toilet of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka. He was 69 years old.

The door to the toilet was broken and the body was recovered when the incident was reported around 9am on Tuesday, according to Md Moniruzzaman, chief (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station.

He said, "He came to the press club yesterday, went to the washroom and did not come out. When the incident was reported, we broke the door to the washroom in the presence of his family and recovered the body. He was bleeding from his nose and mouth. We believe he died of a stroke."

Mahmud's wife and children accompanied the body to the hospital after it was recovered.

Asked whether a post-mortem would be conducted on the body, OC Moniruzzaman said, "It depends on what his wife and children say. We will act accordingly."    "bdnews24
