The Cabinet Division has directed deputy commissioners across Bangladesh to launch mobile court drives to prevent illegal fuel hoarding and overcharging, amid concerns over market stability.

In a letter issued on Monday to all deputy commissioners, the Cabinet Division said the move was taken following a request from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. The energy authorities had urged immediate action at the local level to ensure discipline in the fuel market.

According to the directive, mobile courts are to take action against illegal stockpiling of fuel, sales above government fixed prices, unauthorised open market trading and smuggling.

The government said the measure is intended to prevent artificial shortages and maintain stability in the supply and pricing of fuel oil across the country.

Local administrations have been asked to implement the order without delay to safeguard consumers and deter unlawful activities in the energy sector.
