July Oikkyo demands President Sahabuddin’s removal

July Oikkyo has demanded that President Mohammad Shahabuddin be impeached and removed from office under Article 52 of the constitution for serious misconduct and constitutional violations and face trial as an accomplice in genocide.

The demand was made on Friday afternoon at a press conference in front of Dhaka University Madhur Canteen.

July Oikkyo organizer Fahim Faruque read out a written statement on behalf of the organisation.

Faruque accused President Sahabuddin, appointed during the government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, of “desecrating the people’s parliament” by delivering a speech at the first session of 13th National Parliament.

He noted that although Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was invited to two oath-taking ceremonies after the election, they did not take the July Charter oath. Instead, they arranged for the president to address the first parliamentary session.

The organisation warned that the current parliament is founded on the blood of students and citizens. “If the sacrifices of July are denied, the consequences could be catastrophic,” the statement said.

July Oikkyo also claimed that the president has repeatedly violated his oath since the Mass Uprising of 2024 and has made false statements in multiple media interviews.

Faruque specifically referred to a recent interview in Kaler Kantho, in which the president claimed that July Oikkyo had besieged Bangabhaban in October 2024, even though the organisation was officially formed in May 2025.

The organisation called on members of the Constitutional Reform Council who have not yet taken their oaths to do so promptly and implement the July Charter.

July Oikkyo further announced that it will continue mobilisation and organisational activities until March 25 to unite various July-affiliated groups.
