Government has provided financial assistance amounting to Tk 213.56 crore to road accident victims and their families over the past three and a half years, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister told Parliament on Monday.
The information was presented during the second session of the 13th Parliament’s seventh working day in response to a supplementary question from reserved seat MP Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
According to the minister, Sheikh Rabiul Alam, a total of 5,084 individuals affected by road accidents received support from the government’s welfare fund between 2023 and May this year.
He said the assistance covered families of 3,881 deceased victims, 829 injured persons and 374 individuals who sustained serious injuries in road crashes.
The minister noted that the largest share of the support went to families of those killed in road accidents, reflecting the government’s focus on providing relief to bereaved families.
He added that the financial aid is part of ongoing efforts to support road crash victims and reduce the socio-economic impact of road accidents in the country.
