The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 11 police personnel, including four inspectors, for allegedly embezzling Tk 3.94 crore through a fraudulent ration card scheme at the police ration centre in Jhalakathi Police Lines.

The case was registered on Thursday afternoon by Md Zakir Hossain, Assistant Director of the ACC's Pirojpur Integrated District Office.

According to the case statement, the accused created 252 fake ration cards and fraudulently withdrew ration goods from the police ration centre between 2013 and December 2021, misappropriating a total of Tk 3.94 crore.

The accused include former mess manager Md Alauddin, police inspectors Arif Mahmud, Md Al Mamun, Md Rezaul Karim and Kazi Raziul Zaman, constables Md Atiur Rahman, Md Saiful Islam and Mehedi Hasan, office assistant Md Toufiq Elahi, storekeeper Md Zahir Uddin and sales assistant Syed Jasim Uddin.

ACC official Zakir Hossain said the accused, while holding government positions, embezzled public funds by fraudulently lifting ration goods using forged ration cards. He added that if further investigation uncovers the involvement of others, they will also be named in the case.

Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman said the accused officers are currently posted in different districts and the police department will take necessary action in accordance with regulations if the allegations are proven.
