Parliament sends 133 ordinances to special committee

All 133 ordinances issued during the interim government period have been referred to a special committee of the national parliament for scrutiny, with a deadline of April 2 to submit its findings.

Law Minister Asaduzzaman proposed sending the ordinances to the special committee during the parliament session on Sunday.

Speaker Hafizuddin Ahmed presided over the session, which began at 11 am.

Under the constitution, any ordinance issued by the President must be placed before parliament at its first sitting after the ordinance is promulgated.

Accordingly, the Law Minister had first tabled all 133 ordinances during the inaugural sitting of the 13th parliament on Thursday.

Ordinances are typically reviewed by the relevant ministry-related standing committees of parliament.
However, since those committees have not yet been formed in the new parliament, a special committee was constituted during the first sitting specifically to examine and review the ordinances before reporting back to the full house.

The committee has been given until April 2 to complete its review and present its recommendations to parliament.
