The government has reinstated 123 sergeants and 207 unarmed sub-inspectors, totaling 330 police officers, whose appointments were canceled in 2007 under what was described as "party consideration."

A Ministry of Home Affairs order announced the decision on Monday, less than a month after the BNP-led government took office following its parliamentary majority in February.

The move comes nearly two decades after the officers were first selected during the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance government in 2006. Their appointments in 2007 were subsequently canceled, but they are now being reinstated subject to certain conditions.

Original seniority will be calculated from the date they would have joined in 2007, excluding financial benefits. Basic training for the officers is set at six months, with a total probation period of two years.

Future batch gradation lists will be determined based on written and oral examination results, along with regulations issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.

The order also states that other candidates from the same batch may be considered for reinstatement in the future, contingent on committee verification and police clearance.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested the Inspector General of Police to take all necessary actions under applicable laws and regulations to implement the reinstatement process for the sergeants and unarmed sub-inspectors.
