Bangladesh's Kabaddi contingent will step onto the sands of Sanya with renewed ambition, following the official confirmation of pool placements for the 6th Asian Beach Games.
The multi-sport event, scheduled from 22 to 30 April in Sanya, China, marks the return of the Asian Beach Games after a decade-long hiatus, offering Bangladesh a timely platform to reassert its credentials in beach kabaddi.
In the men's competition, Bangladesh have been drawn into a challenging Pool A alongside Pakistan, Iran and Syria. The grouping presents a stern examination of both tactical maturity and physical endurance, with Iran and Pakistan widely regarded as regional powerhouses in the discipline. For Bangladesh, progression from this pool will demand discipline, cohesion and clinical execution under pressure.
The women's team, meanwhile, will compete in Pool B, where they face Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Nepal. With only the top teams advancing to the semi-finals, the margin for error remains narrow, placing a premium on consistency and composure.
Historically, Bangladesh have enjoyed notable success in beach kabaddi. The men's team secured a bronze medal in the inaugural 2008 edition in Bali, while the women's side followed with bronze-winning performances in 2010 in Muscat and 2012 in Haiyang. Those achievements continue to serve as a benchmark for the current squad.
In preparation for the Sanya campaign, both teams have been engaged in structured training programmes, focusing on match awareness, fitness and tactical refinement. The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation has expressed cautious optimism, viewing the tournament as a significant opportunity to return to the podium.
As the countdown begins, Bangladesh's focus is firmly aligned with performance delivery. Against a backdrop of strong opposition and high expectations, the kabaddi teams will aim to translate preparation into results, and restore their standing on the continental stage.
