2 tourists killed in highway crash on way to Cox’s Bazar

Two tourists were killed in a tragic road accident in the Baniarchhara area of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar district early Thursday morning.

The deceaseds were identified as Shariful Islam, 30, son of Shahid Bhuiyan, and Raisul Islam, 30, son of Oliul Islam. Both were residents of Atipara under Uttarkhan Police Station in Dhaka.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4:30 AM on the Chattogram"Cox’s Bazar highway. The victims were traveling to Cox’s Bazar on a motorcycle along with a group of friends riding separate bikes.

A passenger bus, coming from Chattogram, reportedly crashed into a truck and then struck the motorcycle from behind, leaving the two riders critically injured.

Later, they were rushed to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

Chakaria Chiringa Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Ariful Amin confirmed the incident and said that the bus driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Police have launched an investigation and are taking necessary legal action, added the OC.
