Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has dispatched a formal letter to Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressing Bangladesh's solidarity with the Gulf nation amid the escalating regional conflicts in the Middle East.

The premier's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir handed over the letter during a courtesy meeting with Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi in Doha on Monday, according to a media release.

"In the letter, the Prime Minister conveyed Bangladesh's solidarity with the leadership, government and brotherly people of Qatar in the context of the current regional situation," the foreign ministry media statement read.

Tarique expressed sincere gratitude to the Qatari government for ensuring the safety and welfare of approximately 450,000 Bangladeshi expatriates residing in the country.

He also reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to standing by Qatar in any time of need.

The Prime Minister recalled with "deep gratitude" the Emir's generosity in arranging a specialised air ambulance for former Premier Begum Khaleda Zia's emergency medical trips to London in January and May 2025.

During the meeting, Adviser Humayun also praised Qatar's constructive role in regional peace, dialogue, and humanitarian diplomacy.

The two officials discussed ways to further strengthen the "highly cordial" bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The foreign ministry also noted that the advisor met with Qatar's Minister of Labour Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri.
During this session, Humayun conveyed the Premier's condolences to the labour minister, whose close relative recently perished in a military helicopter accident.    "bdnews24
