The government has cancelled the appointment of Mahbub Morshed as Managing Director (MD) and Editor-in-Chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), following his own application.
A notification issued by Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday stated that the remaining tenure of his contractual appointment has been terminated.
Mahbub Morshed had been appointed to the position on a two-year contract on August 17, 2024, after the fall of Awami League government during the mass uprising.
His tenure had recently come under controversy. On February 18, a group of journalists and employees of BSS staged protests against him at the agency’s office in Paltan, declaring him unwelcome.
Amid the demonstrations, he left the office. In a Facebook post, Morshed later alleged that pressure had been created to remove him by orchestrating a mob.
Earlier, on February 19, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting formed a four-member committee to investigate corruption allegations against him.
