Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that 200,000 primary school students will receive free school uniforms as part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve education.

He replied during a query of Sirajganj-1 constituency lawmaker Md Selim Reza in the morning session presided over by Speaker Hafizuddin Ahmed.

The MP asked whether the government has any plan to prioritize education, ensure quality learning for the new generation and equip students with skills, technology and higher education standards to compete globally.

In his reply, the Prime Minister said that the current democratic government considers education the nation's best investment and is committed to building a quality, practical and inclusive education system.

He added that the government has pledged in its election manifesto to gradually increase education sector allocation to 5 percent of GDP.

To achieve this, 43 priority areas have been identified and short, medium and long-term plans are being implemented.

The Prime Minister emphasized that special importance has been given to improving the quality of primary education.

As part of these initiatives, he confirmed that within the current fiscal year, free school uniforms will be distributed among 200,000 students in government primary schools.
