Newly appointed head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee Tamim Iqbal has pledged to restore the image of the country's cricket and conduct free and fair elections within the stipulated timeframe.
Tamim made the remarks during his first press conference on Tuesday night after assuming charge at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur, BCB sources on Wednesday said.
The National Sports Council (NSC) recently dissolved the previous BCB board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul and formed an 11-member ad-hoc committee headed by Tamim to oversee operations and organize elections within three months.
After formally taking charge, Tamim chaired the committee's first meeting, attended by six members in person and five virtually.
"Whenever someone takes responsibility here, they often talk about development and various initiatives. But for us, the priority is clear and we must restore the image of Bangladesh cricket," Tamim said.
He acknowledged that the reputation of the sport in the country has suffered in the past years and stressed the need for collective efforts to rebuild trust.
"We all believe that cricket's image has been ruined. Fixing that is our most important task," he added.
The former national captain also emphasized the committee's commitment to ensuring a transparent electoral process.
"We have been entrusted with organizing a fair and impartial election within three months. We will carry out this responsibility honestly and as quickly as possible," he remarked.
Alongside preparing for the election, the committee will continue managing the board's regular activities, including preparations related to upcoming international commitments such as the World Cup.
Tamim noted that criticism and scrutiny are inevitable but necessary in the process of rebuilding.
"There will be criticism, discussions about our performance which is normal. But no one wants Bangladesh cricket to remain in its current state," he said.
