The four-day 6th Turaag Active National Squash Championship 2026 concluded on Saturday at the Army Squash Complex in Dhaka, marking another milestone in the development of squash in Bangladesh.
Organised by the Bangladesh Squash Federation and sponsored by Turaag Active, a concern of Urmi Group, the tournament brought together more than 100 players from 30 clubs and institutions representing 28 districts across the country. A total of 79 male and 24 female players competed in 10 groups.
The championship featured contests in nine categories, including Open Men's and Women's divisions, Amateur and University Student events, and Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 boys' and girls' competitions.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque attended the closing ceremony as chief guest, while Urmi Group Director Faiyaz Rahman was present as special guest. The event was chaired by Bangladesh Squash Federation President Major General Md. Hasan Uz Zaman.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aminul Haque said regular national competitions, grassroots development initiatives and private sector sponsorship were creating new opportunities for squash in Bangladesh. He assured government support for the sport, including assistance for establishing a dedicated squash complex if a concrete proposal is submitted.
Faiyaz Rahman highlighted the growing popularity of squash among young people and reaffirmed Urmi Group's commitment to supporting sports development. He said nurturing talented athletes was essential for building a healthy and competitive generation.
In his presidential remarks, Hasan Uz Zaman said squash had made significant progress despite limited infrastructure and a shortage of dedicated courts. He stressed the importance of expanding the sport nationwide, increasing women's participation and targeting success in international competitions.
