The Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) inaugurated its state-of-the-art Renewable Energy Training Facility at the Purbachal Campus, marking a significant milestone in the nation's journey toward a sustainable and climate-resilient energy future.

This initiative, supported by the German Development Cooperation through the Skills Development for Sustainable Energy Solutions (Skills4SE) project implemented by GIZ, is designed to directly address the critical shortage of technical expertise that currently hinders the country's ambitious green energy expansion.

The launch of this facility represents a vital step in strengthening Bangladesh's institutional capacity to deliver industry-relevant training in solar and wind energy. As the country strives to meet the targets set within the Renewable Energy Policy 2025, which aims for 30 percent renewable energy in the power mix by 2040, and the Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), the demand for a highly skilled workforce has never been more urgent.

By aligning technical and vocational training with the specific needs of the labour market, this facility ensures that the energy transition is supported by a competent workforce capable of maintaining and scaling modern green technologies.

The upgraded infrastructure at BPMI positions the institute to play a leading role in the national energy landscape. The new facility includes specialized laboratories for Renewable Energy simulation and Photovoltaics, alongside a dedicated weather station for wind energy resource assessment.

In his remarks as the Chairperson of the event, Md Sobur Hossain, Rector of BPMI, emphasized the strategic importance of the facility, noting that the upgraded resources allow BPMI to play a more effective role in supporting the country's transition towards sustainable energy.

Ulrich Kleppmann, Counsellor, Head of German Development Cooperation, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and Guest of Honour, shared his vision for the partnership:"A sustainable energy transition is not just about technology; it is fundamentally about people. By investing in industry-relevant skills, particularly for women and young professionals, German Development Cooperation ensures that Bangladesh's move toward green energy is both inclusive and economically resilient. This facility is a testament to our shared commitment to a just transition that leaves no one behind, providing the human capital necessary to power a cleaner, greener economy."

The inauguration was also attended by Muzaffar Ahmed, Chairman of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), who served as the Chief Guest.
