A Dhaka court on Monday rejected bail to former DGFI chief Lt Gen (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled in a case filed over the killing of BNP activist Makbul Hossain.
Mamun was produced before the court after completing his remand. The investigation officer requested to keep him in jail until the probe is completed, while defence lawyers moved for bail and the prosecution opposed it.
After hearing both sides, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam rejected the bail plea and sent him to jail.
Mamun Khaled was arrested on March 25 from Mirpur by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to the case, Makbul was shot dead during a clash following a DB operation at the BNP’s Nayapaltan office on December 7, 2022, ahead of a party programme. The case was filed on September 30, 2024, naming 256 accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
