Agro incentive were distributed among beneficiaries from plain land ethnic minority communities in Naogaon’s Niamatpur upazila on Monday.

This initiative aimed to improve their socio-economic conditions.

The distribution programme was organised by the Upazila Livestock Department and Veterinary Hospital under the Integrated Livestock Development Project.

Local MP for Naogaon-1 constituency (Niamatpur, Porsha, Sapahar), Md Mostafizur Rahman, formally inaugurated the programme following a discussion meeting held at the Upazila Livestock Office premises, chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Murshida Khatun.

Speaking at the event, officials said a total of 800 beneficiaries have been enlisted under the project. Each beneficiary will receive two goats along with necessary support materials, including cement pillars, feed, cages, tin sheets and mats to facilitate sustainable livestock rearing.

On the day, 150 beneficiaries were provided with goats and related materials as part of the phased distribution initiative.

Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Rafiqul Islam, and Upazila Livestock Officer Abdullah Al Mamun were present at the event.

The initiative is expected to enhance income-generating opportunities and improve the living standards of marginalised ethnic communities in the region, officials added.
