in same institution must stop: Edn Minister

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Monday stressed the need to stop the practice of students taking repeated admissions in same institution, saying a single registration should suffice for progression from one class to another.

He made these remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with centre secretaries ahead of the SSC and equivalent examinations 2026, organised by the Jashore Education Board.

The minister also expressed concern over declining student engagement in studies and examinations, noting that some students are becoming increasingly inattentive.

He added that stricter oversight measures, including bringing all exam centres and educational institutions under CCTV surveillance, would be implemented.

Milon said weak students may be given additional academic support within their own institutions at a reasonable fee, but teachers will not be allowed to conduct coaching at external centres.

Highlighting the need for transparency and quality in answer script evaluation, he said there is currently no research-based standard in the system, and often known examiners are prioritised. He emphasised training new examiners and improving assessment practices.

The minister further said the government plans to amend the 1940 law to introduce random sampling in answer script evaluation to monitor examiner performance and ensure consistency in marking.

However, he clarified that the move would not amount to a re-evaluation of scripts.
