Four members of a family have died after entering an abandoned well to rescue a goat that had fallen inside in Tangail's Madhupur upazila.

The tragic incident occurred at around 8:30am in the Telki area of the upazila.

Madhupur Fire Service sub-station officer Lavlu Tarafdar confirmed the incident.

He said a goat fell into an abandoned well in Telki village in the morning. A child first entered the well in an attempt to rescue the animal, but died due to a lack of oxygen. Three other family members then entered the well one after another in an effort to save the child and also died from oxygen deprivation.

The well was approximately 9 to 10 feet deep, he said.

After receiving information, firefighters recovered the bodies and later handed them over to the police for further procedures.
