Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially inaugurate the distribution of the Farmers' Card in Tangail on Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year, today.

Under the pilot project, around 21,000 farmers in 11 upazilas of the district will receive agricultural incentives and government support through the card.

The government said the initiative aims to support farmers and make the agricultural production system more dynamic and efficient.

In the first phase, the programme is being launched in 11 upazilas across 10 districts, including Tangail Sadar, Panchagarh Sadar, Shibganj in Bogra, Shailkupa in Jhenaidah, Teknaf in Cox's Bazar, Comilla Adarsh Sadar, Islampur in Jamalpur and Goalanda in Rajbari.

Farmers will receive direct financial assistance through the card. Each farmer will get Tk 2,500 to support farming activities. They will also be able to purchase fertilisers, seeds, pesticides and agricultural equipment at fair prices.

The programme also includes low-interest loans, agricultural insurance and training facilities for farmers. In case of crop damage, compensation will be available through insurance support. Modern technology will also be used to align farming with weather conditions.

The inaugural programme will be held at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail Sadar, according to local authorities.

Security measures have been strengthened at multiple levels to ensure the Prime Minister's visit proceeds smoothly.

Officials said the programme will be expanded gradually to include farmers across the country, with the aim of strengthening the agricultural sector and improving rural livelihoods.
