State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain remarked that the previous fascist government followed the same path of murder and torture as the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.

He said anyone protesting against the government was picked up from their home and subjected to enforced disappearance using state machinery.

The State Minister made the remarks on Sunday (August 30) afternoon during a program marking International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances at the China-Friendship International Conference Centre in the capital.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir attended the program as the chief guest, alongside family members of victims of enforced disappearance.

Ishraque Hossain stated that the present government will always stand by the families of disappearance victims. Financial and administrative assistance is being extended through the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, and this support will continue.

He added that enforced disappearance represents a prime example of state brutality. The previous Sheikh Hasina regime mirrored the oppressive conduct of the 1971 occupation forces.

"If anyone protested, they were abducted from their homes. State forces were utilized to execute these actions. We believe the government bears a clear responsibility toward these affected families," he said.

As part of this accountability, the government is providing financial assistance to the victims' families, and support initiatives under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will remain ongoing, Ishraque Hossain assured.
