A moderate earthquake struck early Tuesday morning, briefly shaking Dhaka and nearby areas and causing momentary panic among residents.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reported that the tremor occurred at 6:37:36am. Preliminary measurements placed the quake at a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale.

According to officials, the epicentre was located near Manipur border, about 436 kilometres northeast of BMD’s seismic monitoring centre in Dhaka's Agargaon.

Despite the sudden jolt that alarmed many across the capital and surrounding districts, authorities confirmed that no casualties or structural damage have been reported so far.
