The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Thursday set May 5 for passing order on charge framing in a crimes against humanity case against former lawmaker Shamim Osman and 11 others over atrocities in Narayanganj during the July mass uprising.

The first tribunal set the date as the state-appointed defence counsels Md Ali Haider, Sheikh Mustavi Hasan and Amir Hossain, argued for discharging their clients from the case. All the accused in the case are still at large and are being tried in absentia.

The prosecution on April 19 concluded their part of hearing in the case, accusing Shamim and his men of complicity in the crimes, in which 10 people were killed in Fatullah and Signboard areas of Narayanganj on July 19, 21 and August 5, 2024.

Other accused in the case include Shamim's son Ayan Osman, his nephew Azmeri Osman, Ayan's brother-in-law Minhaj Uddin Ahmed Diki, and Shamim's brother-in-law Tanvir Ahmed Titu, Raju Ahmed, Abdul Karim Babu, Kamrul Hasan Munna, Shah Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Shahdat Hossain Saju, Habibur Rahman Riad and Sohanur Rahman Shuvra.

The prosecution on January 19, 2026, submitted the formal charge in the case. The tribunal, after taking the charges into cognisance, issued arrest warrants against the accused.
