A Malaysian army officer has been placed on a five-day remand following a car crash that killed 22-year-old Bangladeshi national Mujahid Millad and injured his wife in Kuala Lumpur.

Judge Guptan Nor Asyikin Murlykamal granted the remand order on Friday, allowing traffic police to interrogate the suspect until next Tuesday.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning on the Maju Expressway as Millad and his wife, Tabassum Abida, were traveling from the airport.

According to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police official Mohammad Jamzuri Mohammad Isa, the 31-year-old army officer was driving his vehicle in the wrong lane against traffic when he collided head-on with the couple's car.

Millad, a resident of Habiganj district in Bangladesh who was visiting Malaysia, died at the scene. His wife, Tabassum, sustained injuries in the collision. The army officer and a female passenger in his vehicle were also injured and received medical treatment.

Preliminary police investigations suggest the officer may have been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Authorities have arrested the officer and filed charges under the Road Transport Act, including allegations equivalent to culpable homicide.

The victim's family in Bangladesh is reportedly in shock as they await further updates from Malaysian authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing as police look to finalize the case for prosecution.
