Rumee A Hossain appointed chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines

Bank Asia PLC’s Board Executive Committee’s Chairman and Sponsor Director Rumee A Hossain has been appointed as the new chairman of the Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on Saturday. The notification stated that the order, issued in the public interest, would take immediate effect.

He succeeds Sheikh Bashir Uddin, who had earlier resigned from the post citing personal reasons. Following his resignation, the position had remained vacant for a prolonged period.

Rumi A Hossain is a prominent business figure with experience in the banking and corporate sectors.

According to the ministry, the board of directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines also includes Finance Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mazumder, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Fahmida Akhtar, Assistant Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, Engineer-in-Chief of Bangladesh Army Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman, BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim, Chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh M Masrur Reaz, Chairman of United Commercial Bank Sharif Zahir, Vice Chairman of DBL Group Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Additional Managing Director of ICMA Bangladesh Md Mamunur Rashid, Head of Chambers at Choudhury & Law Firm Barrister Khairul Alam Choudhury, Professor of Marketing at Dhaka University Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaq, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and CEO Kaiser Sohail Ahmed (ex-officio).
