Parliament secretariat allocated Tk 290.60cr in FY27 budget

The Parliament Secretariat has been granted a budget of Tk 290.60 crore for the 2026 27 fiscal year, with the overwhelming share designated for operational costs.

The allocation was approved at the 37th meeting of the Parliament Secretariat Commission, held on Wednesday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.

According to the approved breakdown, Tk 289.90 crore has been set aside for operational expenditure, while Tk 70 lakh will go toward development spending in the upcoming fiscal year.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, and Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, who joined by special invitation.

In addition to finalizing the FY27 allocation, the commission endorsed a revised budget for the current 2025 26 fiscal year. The updated figure stands at Tk 226.69 crore, including Tk 226.49 crore for operational expenses and Tk 20 lakh for development activities.

At the start of the session, members confirmed the minutes of the 36th Commission meeting and reviewed the status of previously adopted decisions. Progress on ongoing projects under the Parliament Secretariat also came under discussion.

The agenda was presented by Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat. Senior officials from the Secretariat and representatives from relevant ministries were present at the meeting.
