BNP leader and former general secretary of Gano Odhikar Parishad Rashed Khan has alleged that National Citizen Party (NCP) convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam cannot evade responsibility for alleged corruption during the interim government.
Rashed Khan made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday, a day after Nahid Islam reportedly challenged critics in parliament to present evidence of corruption. "I assumed he himself was not involved in any corruption," Rashed wrote, adding that multiple allegations had since surfaced regarding individuals within and close to the interim administration.
He claimed that during Nahid Islam's tenure, several associates were involved in corruption and lobbying, citing media reports about the activities of a former personal assistant, Atiq Morshed. He further alleged that Nahid exercised influence in appointing individuals from his own circle to key positions and in reshuffling responsibilities across ministries beyond his portfolio.
Referring to Nahid Islam's reported statement that he had trusted certain advisers but was misled, Rashed Khan argued that those same advisers are now facing allegations of corruption, nepotism and abuse of power. "Nahid Islam was their employer-so can he avoid responsibility?" he questioned.
The BNP leader also raised concerns over claims that wealthy individuals were financing the NCP, questioning the sources and motives of such funding. He further criticised the appointment of Sheikh Bashir Uddin as trade adviser, suggesting it did not align with expectations from a post-uprising administration, and asked whether the party maintains financial links with industrial groups.
Rashed Khan alleged that the NCP was formed while Nahid Islam held an advisory role in the interim government, calling it a matter of ethical concern. He also questioned whether any meaningful reforms were carried out in the Information Ministry during Nahid's tenure, particularly regarding disclosure of alleged corruption over the past 16 years.
