Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has arrived in Sylhet on his first visit to the region since assuming office.
He landed in Sylhet at 10AM on Saturday on a private jet. His wife Dr Zubaida Rahman is accompanying him as Sylhet is also the home district of her.
The Prime Minister was received at Osmani International Airport by Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Labour and Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Quiyum Choudhury, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Mashiur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Sarwoer Alam and other senior officials.
From the airport, Tarique will directly go to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA). After paying respects there, he is due to travel to Khadimnagar to visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).
The premier will inaugurate the re-excavation programme of the Baisha River located in Kashipur Union under Sylhet Sadar Upazila around 12 noon.
Afterwards, he will offer Zuhr prayers and have lunch at the Circuit House.
In the afternoon, he will inaugurate "Notun Kuri Sports 2026" at Sylhet Stadium at 3 pm. This is a new programme aimed at exploring sports talent among children and teenagers at the district level, which was part of BNP's election pledges.
Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to attend a party meeting at the Shilpakala Academy in Sylhet at 5 pm.
The Prime Minister will return to Dhaka at night.
