DU teacher Sudip placed on 3-day remand in student suicide case

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Dhaka University (DU) teacher Dr Sudip Chakraborty on a three-day remand in a case filed over alleged abetment of a student’s suicide.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monjurul Islam passed the order after a hearing, where the prosecution sought remand for proper interrogation, while the defence opposed the plea and moved for bail.

The case was filed following the death of Munira Mahjabin Mimo, a student of the Theatre and Performance Studies department of DU, whose body was found hanging at her residence in North Badda on April 26.

According to police, a note recovered from the scene mentioned the accused.

Later, the victim’s father filed a case with Badda Police Station accusing Sudip Chakraborty of abetment to suicide.

The accused was arrested from North Badda in the early hours of April 27 and has been in custody since then.
