Former deputy inspector general (DIG) Abdul Jalil Mondal has expressed his willingness to become a state witness in a case filed over alleged killings in the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in May 2013.

During hearing on Wednesday before the International Crimes Tribunal-1, Abdul Jalil's  lawyer Ali Haider said that Jalil wants to become state witness, seeking bail on the grounds of illness.

But the tribunal rejected the bail after hearing.

Ali Haider said Mondal was serving as additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the time of the incident but had no involvement in it.

He also served as additional director general of RAB.
