A man was arrested as the prime suspect in a murder of college student on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Md. Mainul Islam Himu, 32, was apprehended near Ichladi toll plaza at Uzirpur upazila of the district.
The deceased was identified as Sanjida Kabir Anita, 21.
According to RAB sources, Himu and Anita had been in a romantic relationship for approximately two years. Anita went missing on April 23 after leaving home under the pretext of visiting her sister.
Unable to reach her via phone, he family member launched a search and eventually found her lifeless body on a bed inside Himu’s rented apartment on West Bogra Road in Barishal city but Himu was nowhere to be found.
Following the incident, victim's sister filed a murder case with the Kotwali Model Police Station.
RAB-8 Company Commander Md. Kamruzzaman confirmed that the arrest was made based on a tip-off at around 9:30 AM and, Himu reportedly admitted to his involvement in the crime during primary interrogation.
He has since been handed over to the Kotwali Model Police Station for further legal proceedings, he added.
