Govt plans int'l airport, airbase, flying academy in Bogura

Bogura, May 07 The government has announced plans to upgrade the Bogura Airfield into a international-standard airport alongside establishing a modern air force base and a flying academy to train pilots.

The announcement came on Thursday (7 May) after senior government official and military authorities visited the Bogura Airfields.

Among those present were Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanom, State Minister M Rasiduzzaman Millat, LGRD State Minister Mir Shahe Alam and Air Force Chief Hasan Mahmud Khan.

Officials said the project aims to make bogura the first international airport in northern Bangladesh under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

LGRD State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said a 10,500 feet runway is planned and feasibility study will begin soon. He added that affected landowners would receive worth three times the market price.

Civil aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanom announced plans for a flying academy to train skill pilots and create job opportunities for youth.

State Minister M Rasiduzzaman Millat said authorities have been instructed to speed up the process for launching commercial flights.

Air Force Chief Hasan Mahmud Khan said the government has approved plans for a modern air force base in Bogura. He also said new fighter jets purchased by the government would be stationed there.
