Morsalin Ahmed rules the board again at DRU chess meet

Like a seasoned grandmaster returning to a familiar battlefield, FIDE-rated chess player Morsalin Ahmed once again underlined his enduring supremacy in the newsroom chess arena by winning the title at the Cute-DRU Sports Festival-2026 Chess Competition on Saturday.

Representing FootballBangladesh dotcom?, Morsalin showcased his trademark composure, tactical awareness and calculated attacking play at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall, where the curtain-raiser of the sports festival ofbDRU was held amid lively enthusiasm.

The accomplished campaigner, widely regarded as the most successful performer in DRU chess history, captured his 19th title in the competition. Although absent from the previous two editions, Morsalin returned to the chequered board with authority, proving that experience and class remain priceless assets in the game of sixty-four squares.

Among fellow journalists, he is affectionately known as the "Chess Emperor," a fitting tribute to a player who has ruled the DRU circuit for years with remarkable consistency.

Morsalin once again stayed several moves ahead of the field. His sharp decision-making and endgame discipline ultimately guided him back to the summit.

Jaheduzzaman of Desh TV? finished runners-up, while Rafiqul Islam Azad of Green Watch secured third place.
The competition was inaugurated by Md Aminul Ehsan, Director (Sports) of the National Sports Council, who attended the event as chief guest.

Speaking at the ceremony, Aminul Ehsan described chess as a game of intelligence and composure.
The event was presided over by Mehedi Azad Masum, Vice-President of Dhaka Reporters Unity. DRU General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel was also present.

Mynul Hasan Sohel said the sports festival once again highlighted the importance of sporting activities alongside professional responsibilities, adding that games and sports play a valuable role in mental development and unity among journalists.
