The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will launch a 10-day nationwide emergency truck sale of essential commodities from Monday to help stabilise market prices ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
A total of 720 mobile trucks will be deployed across the country to sell subsidised goods directly to consumers, according to a press release.
Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir is scheduled to inaugurate the programme in the Agargaon area of Dhaka on May 11, 2026.
As per an official order signed by TCB Deputy Director (Commercial) Md Shahadat Hossain, the special sales drive will continue until May 21, excluding Fridays.
Officials said the initiative is expected to reach a large number of consumers, with each truck serving around 400 people daily. In total, about 28.80 lakh consumers are expected to benefit during the 10-day campaign.
Unlike the regular TCB cardholder programme, the special truck sale will remain open to all consumers, allowing purchases without a permanent TCB card.
Under the programme, a total of 13,939 metric tonnes of essential commodities will be distributed nationwide.
Consumers will be able to buy edible oil at Tk 130 per litre (maximum two litres), sugar at Tk 80 per kg (one kg) and lentils at Tk 70 per kg (two kg per person).
For nationwide coverage, 50 trucks will operate in Dhaka Metropolitan and Dhaka district, while 20 trucks will be deployed in Chattogram Metropolitan and district.
Other divisional cities and their districts will receive 15 trucks each, while the remaining 56 districts will get 10 trucks per district.
Officials said the Eid-focused initiative will complement TCB’s regular cardholder distribution programme for low-income families.
In May 2026, around 72 lakh cardholder families are expected to receive 34,848 metric tonnes of subsidised goods under the regular programme, with prices and quotas remaining unchanged.
