The government has undertaken several special measures, including an emergency vaccination campaign, to combat the measles outbreak in Bangladesh. Under the nationwide programme, nearly 1.8 crore children have been targeted for vaccination.
Meanwhile, 11 children died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours. Of them, four died after being infected with measles, while the remaining seven died with measles-related symptoms, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) measles report released on Sunday.
It also reported that since March 15, a total of 65 people have died from confirmed measles infections, while suspected measles-related deaths have reached 344. During the same period, 6,819 confirmed measles cases and 46,710 suspected cases were recorded nationwide.
According to DGHS data, the ongoing vaccination campaign set a nationwide target of vaccinating 18,016,914 children. As of May 10, a total of 17,843,605 children had received the measles-rubella vaccine, achieving 99 percent of the target.
