Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, Prime Minister's adviser on information and broadcasting, has said that an investigation committee comprising both local and international experts will be formed to find out the causes behind the measles outbreak and vaccine shortage.
However, there is no need to declare a state of emergency regarding measles.
Speaking at a briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday, regarding the progress of various government activities, he said, ''There will be an investigation into the measles outbreak, the current crisis and the overall situation related to it. Discussions have already taken place with the Prime Minister regarding the matter. A committee consisting of national and international experts will be formed to investigate the measles situation.''
Dr. Zahed stated that more than 400 children have died due to measles, calling it a serious issue.
''The investigation will examine why there was a shortage of measles vaccines and whether there was any negligence in administering the vaccines.''
He further added, ''If the investigation uncovers any wrongdoing, those responsible will certainly be punished. The government also needs to expand healthcare facilities and support for measles treatment.''
