
KHULNA, May 12: Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun said smoking and the use of tobacco products are extremely harmful to public health. He stressed the need to discourage the production, use, sale, purchase and advertisement of tobacco products.
He said this as chief guest at a divisional-level anti-tobacco seminar on the implementation of the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act held at the conference room of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner's Office on Monday.
He said no tobacco products should be sold within 100 meters of educational institutions and the products must not be sold to persons less than 18 years of age.
He hoped that proper implementation of the Act would significantly reduce tobacco consumption.
Director General of the National Tobacco Control Cell Md Akhtaruzzaman addressed the seminar online as a special guest.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abu Sayeed Md Monjur Alam chaired the seminar.
Among others, Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Sifat Mehnaz, Superintendent of Police of Khulna Range DIG Office Md Kamrul Islam, Health Department Director Dr Md Mujibur Rahman and Khulna Press Club President Mostafa Sarwar spoke at the seminar.
