Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced a government initiative to install solar power projects in educational institutions across the country in phases as part of a broader renewable energy and education infrastructure strategy.

The minister made the announcement while addressing a signing ceremony of an agreement with Omera regarding solar power facilities at Dhaka Residential Model College on Wednesday.

Speaking as the chief guest, Milon said the government was committed to expanding renewable energy generation and improving educational infrastructure simultaneously.

"The government will not spare any effort in the field of education," he said, adding that the administration had set a target of generating 2,000 megawatts of solar power by 2030.

The minister also said the government had undertaken policy measures to remove what he described as existing bottlenecks in the education system.

"To this end, initiatives are being taken so that a student can complete the SSC examination within 10 years and the HSC examination within 12 years after starting education," he said.

Referring to the proposed restructuring of the public examination schedule, Milon said discussions were underway regarding holding examinations within a revised academic timeframe.

"A meeting will be held today in this regard. Discussions will be held on how to complete the SSC and HSC examination syllabus properly and take the examination on time without wasting time," he said.

Earlier, Dhaka Residential Model College formally inaugurated a 600 kilowatt peak capacity "On Grid OPEX Model" solar power project as part of its initiative to establish a net zero campus.

College authorities said the 600 kilowatt solar project had been designed as an environmentally sustainable and cost effective energy system that would increase renewable energy usage on campus and ensure long term savings in power management.
