Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim became Bangladesh's highest century-maker in Test cricket after scoring his 14th hundred during the second Test against Pakistan in Sylhet on Monday.

The milestone allowed Mushfiqur to move past Mominul Haque, who previously held the national record with 13 Test centuries.
Mushfiqur Rahim brought up a landmark moment as he crossed 16,000 international runs, becoming the first Bangladesh batter to achieve the milestone across formats.

Mushfiqur reached the landmark in emotional fashion after resuming the post-tea session on 90. The experienced right-hander had to wait patiently for the final few runs, taking 23 deliveries to move from 90 to 100 as Pakistan tightened their bowling.

He eventually completed the century from 178 balls by steering pacer Mohammad Abbas through the gully region for a boundary.

An emotional Mushfiqur celebrated passionately after reaching the milestone. He raised both hands, dropped his bat and embraced teammate Taijul Islam while Bangladesh players applauded from the dressing room. He then performed Sajdah, continuing his familiar celebration after centuries.

The innings came at a crucial stage of the match with Bangladesh looking to build a commanding lead against Pakistan on a deteriorating Sylhet surface.

Bangladesh started the day with Mushfiqur alongside captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, and despite wickets falling regularly at the other end, the veteran batter anchored the innings superbly.

He shared a crucial 123-run partnership with Litton Das, who scored 69, helping Bangladesh stretch their lead beyond 400.
After Litton's dismissal, Mushfiqur continued frustrating Pakistan's bowlers and later added another valuable stand with Taijul Islam.

Mushfiqur eventually made 137, guiding Bangladesh to a dominant position and further strengthening his legacy as one of the country's greatest Test batters.
