A seven-year-old girl has been found murdered in Mirpur's Pallabi area, with a tenant of a neighbouring flat suspected of involvement.
The deceased, Lamisa, was recovered from house number 39, Block-B, Road-7, Section-11, under Pallabi Police Station around 9am on Tuesday.
Pallabi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Emdadul Haque said the victim is the daughter of Abdul Hannan Molla, a rickshaw mechanic from Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj.
Police suspect that Sohel, 32, a tenant of a flat adjacent to the victim's residence in the same building, may have slit the child's throat. Officers said the child's head was severed after the attack.
However, police arrested the main suspect from Narayanganj's Fatullah area on Tuesday night. Police said that the accused was not questioned in detail. It will be briefed in detail after the interrogation.
The incident caused shock in the area. On receiving the information, police from Pallabi Police Station, along with CID and other law enforcement agencies, rushed to the scene and began an investigation.
Police said it would be determined after a post-mortem examination whether the child was sexually assaulted before the murder.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasan Basir said drives are underway to identify the exact cause of the incident and arrest the accused.
