NICAR okays 6 proposals

The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) has approved six proposals on Wednesday aimed at strengthening the country's administrative structure through the creation of one new police stations, three new upazilas, district boundary adjustments for Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur, and institutional reorganization.

The new upazilas are Fatikchhari North in Chattogram, Bangora in Cumilla and Pagla in Mymensingh. The newly approved police station is Halda Police Station in Chattogram, according to the decision.

The approval was given at the 121st meeting of NICAR, held on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Secretariat, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair. Later, the PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu briefed media.

Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport and Communications Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, and secretaries of the relevant ministries also attended the NICAR meeting.

Shiplu said the committee approved three new upazilas and a police station at the meeting. It also decided to bring the portions of Narayanganj and Gazipur districts fall within the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK)'s Purbachal New Town Project under the administrative jurisdiction of Dhaka district.

The new Halda Police Station will be established by dividing Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram.
According to NICAR proposal, a new Halda Police Station will be established by separating five unions�"Uttar Madarsha, Chikondondi, Dakshin Madarsha, Shikarpur, and Burishchar�"from Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram district.

It also stated that a new upazila named Fatikchhari North will be created in Chattogram district comprising six unions- Bagan Bazar, Dantmara, Narayanhat, Bhujpur, Harualchhari, and Suabil from Fatikchhari Upazila.

The new Bangora Upazila will be formed upgrading the existing Bangora Police Station, which was established dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla district. The new upazila will comprise 10 unions - Shreekail, Akubpur, Andikot, Purba Dhoir (East), Purba Dhoir (West), Bangora (East), Bangora (West), Chapitala, Ramchandrapur (North), and Tonki.

A new South Gafargaon Upazila will be established in Mymensingh district by combining eight unions�"Moshakhali, Panchbag, Usthi, Longair, Paithal, Datter Bazar, Niguari, and Tangab�" dividing the Gafargaon Upazila.

NICAR approved the reorganization of Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur districts by incorporating 6,021.6125 acres of land under RAJUK's Purbachal New Town Project into Dhaka district. The area includes parts of two mouzas in Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur district and 14 full or partial mouzas in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj district.

The committee also approved the reorganization of the Roads and Highways Department under the Road Transport and Highways Division to facilitate the establishment of the Bogura Road Zone and the Naogaon Road Circle offices.
