Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir on Wednesday announced plans to establish four police stations, six investigation centres and two police lines in the Purbachal New Town Project area to strengthen law and order.
He made the announcement while inaugurating the newly constructed Borkau Police Camp at the RAJUK Central Mechanical Stack Yard in Purbachal.
The IGP said the move was aimed at ensuring security in the RAJUK-developed township. He added that work was also under way to establish three deputy commissioner (DC) offices, while 41 police boxes would be set up across different sectors of the project.
He said the inauguration of the Borkau Police Camp marked the formal launch of police operations in the Purbachal New Town Project and would play a key role in developing the area into a planned, safe and modern township.
Ali Hossain said the Home Ministry had granted administrative approval for establishing the police stations and investigation centres, considering the growing importance of security in the area.
He said RAJUK had decided to allocate 29.21 acres of land to Bangladesh Police in phases. Registration of deeds for 18.63 acres has already been completed, while the remaining land is being processed.
The IGP also said there were plans to bring the Purbachal New Town Project under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) by creating a separate division, similar to existing DMP divisions, to be headed by an additional police commissioner. He added that a proposal to create around 6,524 police posts for the project area was under consideration.
The new police camp would help accelerate development activities and strengthen public confidence through an enhanced police presence, he said.
Ali Hossain expressed hope that the Pushi Police Camp would be inaugurated within the next two months, adding that more police stations and investigation centres would be established in phases.
The programme, chaired by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, was attended by senior police officials, local dignitaries and journalists.
