Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda and Dhaka WASA Managing Director Md Aminul Islam on Sunday jointly inaugurated the Integrated Water Operation Centre (IWOC) and a Child Day Care Centre, both developed under ADB-funded initiatives aimed at modernising Dhaka’s water management system and promoting workplace inclusivity.
The Integrated Water Operation Centre, established under the Dhaka Water Supply Network Improvement Project (DWSNIP), is a GIS-based centralised monitoring platform designed for real-time supervision of water production, distribution, and quality from a single control room. Officials said the system will enable automated data tracking, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen oversight of Dhaka’s water supply network, ultimately enhancing service delivery for customers.
Alongside the IWOC, the leaders also inaugurated a newly constructed Child Day Care Centre implemented under the Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project (DESWS) with grant support from ADB. The facility is part of Dhaka WASA’s Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Action Plan.
The daycare centre has been developed to support working parents, particularly female employees, by providing a safe and child-friendly environment within the organisation. It is equipped with breastfeeding facilities, activity and rest areas, dining space, CCTV surveillance, emergency care support, and other amenities for children aged six months to six years. The facility can accommodate up to 20 children of Dhaka WASA staff.
Officials said the inauguration of the two facilities marks a significant step in Dhaka WASA’s ongoing efforts toward institutional modernisation, improved service delivery, and inclusive workplace development with continued support from the Asian Development Bank.
