The government has officially declared the period from May 25, 2026 to May 25, 2027 as ‘Nazrul Year’ and issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the decision was taken to observe the year in honour of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The declaration will take effect from May 25, 2026.

The announcement follows a government decision unveiled during the national celebration of the 127th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, held in Trishal, Mymensingh, on May 23 and organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

At the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that the period from May 25, 2026 to May 25, 2027 would be observed as ‘Nazrul Year’.

The gazette notification was issued as part of the implementation of that declaration.
