Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks met with Opposition Leader in Parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office on Sunday.
A press release issued by Jamaat-e-Islami confirmed the matter.
At the meeting, the both sides discussed the post-election situation in Bangladesh, bilateral relations and investment between Bangladesh and Sweden, international relations and other issues of mutual interest, according to the press release.
They also expressed optimism that Swedish investment in Bangladesh will increase further in the future and hoped for Sweden’s continued strong support for Bangladesh.
According to Jammat, discussions were also held on the July Charter, implementation of the referendum verdict and the possible implications of the much-talked-about ordinances.
The two sides exchanged views on the proposed national budget, tax structure reforms, effective solutions to the Rohingya crisis and various projects being implemented in Bangladesh with Swedish funding.
The Swedish ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary Matilda Svensson and Second Secretary and Head of Politics, Trade and Communications Olle Lundin.
The Opposition Leader’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman and Member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee Ali Ahmad Mabrur, among others, were also present at the meeting.
